The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Monday has published the Central Motor Vehicles (Sixteenth Amendment) Rules, 2021 through which it has exempted the electric vehicle from registration certificate fees.

“Provided further that, for the Battery Operated Vehicles as defined in clause (u) of rule 2, the items given at Serial number 4 of the below mentioned Table shall be exempted from the payment of fees for the purpose of issue or renewal of registration certificate and assignment of new registration mark.” amendment reads.

The Amendment is brought under rule 81 which pertains to the various fees chargeable to vehicle owners ranging from grant and renewal of trade certificate for vehicles to issue of registration certificates, transfer of ownership and more.
