The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the limitation period for filing of cases in Courts and Tribunals from 14th March, 2020 until further order amid second wave of the COVID pandemic.

The Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association (SCAORA) had recently filed an application seeking the Suo Moto order passed by Supreme Court on March 23, 2020, to be revived again. The SCAORA had requested the Supreme Court to suspend limitation period for filing of cases/appeals under all general/special laws in view of the difficulties faced by the litigants in approaching the courts amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The order was passed by a bench of Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant and Justice AS Bopanna in the suo moto case In Re Cognizance for Extension of Limitation.

A copy of final order in this regard is yet to be released.
