The Union home ministry on Friday ordered the exemption of all shops under the Shops and Establishment Act of States/UTs, including shops in residential complexes and market complexes, except shops in multi-brand and single-brand malls.

The MHA stated that “all shops under Shops and Establishment Act of States and union territories, including shops in residential complexes and market complexes, except shops in multi-brand and single-brand malls, outside limits of Municipal Corporations,” have now been exempted from the Centre’s revised consolidated lockdown restrictions.

The shops can function only with 50 per cent strength of workers with wearing of masks and social distancing being mandatory.

The relaxations in the lockdown for shops are not applicable in hotspots and containment zones.

The Ministry later clarified that the relaxation is not applicable to restaurants, salons and barber shops, and also to liquor shops. E-commerce operations dealing with non-essential will also remain suspended.
