Madhya Pradesh HC Issues Notice for Regulation of Web Streaming Platforms

The Madhya Pradesh High Court (Indore Bench) on Monday issued notices to platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime that offer online streaming services for regulation of uncertified and unregulated online content.

The division bench of Justice S.C. Sharma and Justice Shailendra Shukla asked the Central Government and the ten respondent Companies viz. AltBalaji, Netflix, Amazon Prime, VIU, Voot, Vuclip, Hoichoi, Yashraj Films, Arre and Zee5 to file their replies in this behalf within six weeks. The plea filed by an NGO, Maatr Foundation seeking to regulate online content on various web streaming platforms.

The plea was filed through Advocates Amay Bajaj, Ashi Vaidya, Paritosh Shrivastava and Anmol Kushwaha. As per the petition, these online streaming platforms are broadcasting content that is unregulated, vulgar and uncertified. It is easily accessible by the public including children of tender age.
